How did we start selling used motorcycle parts?
It all began in 2007 when Phil Engel purchased a totalled 1978 Suzuki 750cc, and a totalled 1979 Suzuki 750 to make a working motorcycle to ride with his son. After a few months of work he had taken apart both bikes and made a good one out of the two. He called it Trinity because out of the two bikes he got a third one. He had a lot of used motorcycle parts left over, so he decided to sell them online, and use the money to help pay for his daughter’s college tuition. It worked great, and he paid down her school debt and then he decided selling used motorcycle parts would be a great part-time job to make some extra money.
How did we decide to exclusively sell used European motorcycle parts?
One day Phil broadened his horizons and purchased a totalled BMW K1100LT to fix up. He chose a BMW motorcycle because European motorcycles are some of the best motorcycles on the market and because of his German heritage. But soon he discovered it was hard to find used motorcycle parts for BMW motorcycles and other European motorcycles—which is why he decided to help others who were having a hard time finding used European motorcycle parts. He started exclusively selling European bike parts, such as:
- BMW motorcycle parts
- Triumph motorcycle parts
- Aprilia motorcycle parts
- Ducati motorcycle parts
- MV Agusta motorcycle parts
- Moto Guzzi motorcycle parts
How did Engeland Moto grow to what it is today?
As his business grew, he began to ask his friend Nick, who had been a business professor at UNC Charlotte, for advice on how to raise capital. Nick who was retired by that time saw the potential for a good business venture, and they went into business together. It was under Nick’s guidance and his organizational skills that Engeland Moto grew to what it is today. We now have our own building, and along with our used motorcycle parts business, we have expanded into having an auto dealership and an auto transport business.
